Creating terminology records

To create a terminology record in TradooIT:
  1. Open your terminology bank.

  2. In the toolbar, click on Add.
    A new record is displayed.

  3. In the Status field, indicate the status of the record, which may be either Accepted (default), To be reviewed (if you or your revisor want to come back to it later on) or Rejected. During pretranslation, TradooIT will only replace accepted records in your texts to translate.

  4. In the drop-down menus, select the source and target languages of the terms in the record.
    Note: You will be able to indicate the replacement direction for each term pair in the Terminology section of the record

  5. In the Source or client field, enter the sources or clients to which the record applies. If you do not enter anything, the record will apply by default to all sources and clients.

  6. In the Tags field, entrer the custom categories to which the record applies. These may refer to the style of text (correspondence, training, etc.), a specific format (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), a subject field (computer science, legal, etc.) or anything else that could help you classify documents.

  7. In the Advanced contextualization section, you can enter advanced criteria to determine whether it is appropriate to replace the record terms in a text to be translated (for more information, see section Contextualizing terminology records).

  8. In the Terminology section, enter as many term pairs as required by clicking on the plus icon. The table below explains the various options that TradooIT offers for each term.

    Arrows indicating whether to make the replacement only in the source or target language of the record, or in both languages. Click repeatedly on the icon to change the arrow direction.

    Optional drow-down menus allowing you to specify the type of term, if required:
    • Regex: regular expression using a very specific syntax (see www.regular-expressions.info/reference.html).
    • Acronym: acronym or abbreviation of a potential main term. In this case, the Check for the full form option is enabled and allows you to specify whether you want to replace the acronym only if the document contains the full form of the main term, or whether to let TradooIT decide to replace it or not.
    • Segment: type of term that TradooIT replaces only if it is a complete segment in the text to be translated. This option is useful for short titles. For example, you may not want to replace the term "participants" by "attendees" everywhere in a document, but, if it is a title at the beginning of Minutes, it may be appropriate.

    Drop-down menu indicating whether the term on this line must absolutely be replaced in texts to translate, or whether it is simply a suggestion or a translation to avoid.
     f.Case-sensitive detectionEnabled or disabledOption telling TradooIT to replace the term only if the case (upper or lower case) in the text to be translated is the same as in the record.
     g.Format-sensitive detectionEnabled or disabledOption telling TradooIT to replace the term only if the format (case, spaces, punctuation, font, etc.) in the text to be translated is the same as in the record.
     h.Check for the full formEnabled or disabledOption, which is enabled only for acronyms and indicates whether you always want to check if the text to be translated contains the full form of the main term in the record before replacing the acronym, or whether you prefer to let TradooIT decide.
     i.Case-sensitive replacementEnabled or disabledOption telling TradooIT to replace the term in the text to be translated using the case provided in the record. For example, if the option is disabled and the term to be replaced is written all in upper case in the source text, TradooIT will put the term all in upper case in the pretranslated text. If you prefer to avoid this, enable this option.

  10. In the Note section, enter as many notes or observations as required by clicking on the plus icon.

  11. Save your record.
